  1. Well Clausewitz's did say that "When one force is a great deal stronger than the other, an estimate may be enough. There will be no fighting: the weaker side will yield at once. Even if no actual fighting occurs - the outcome rests on the assumption that if it came to fighting, the enemy would be destroyed."

    That was the long and the short of it with nuclear weapons in the 1950's. The U.S. had paid for it's status in money and blood the previous decade - it is notable that they did NOT push this advantage as much as they could have at the time.
